Cyclist Dragged under Truck in Hit and Run Files Suit in Texas Posted on May 20, 2016 by Larry Bodine Elizabeth English before she was run over and dragged by the driver of a pickup truck. Texas attorney Mo Aziz, of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend is representing Elizabeth English, a pre-med student at The University of Texas at Austin, who was struck on her bike and dragged by a Dodge Ram pickup truck. Mr. Aziz has filed suit in Travis County against Artemio Avila, driver of the vehicle, and Jesus Aguilar, owner of the vehicle. Aziz is a member of The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Attorneys. On March 29, 2016, Elizabeth English was on her bicycle in the southbound left turn lane on Airport Boulevard in Austin, Texas. As she was waiting to turn eastbound onto East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Mr. Avila, who was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck, entered the left turn lane and struck Ms. English. She became lodged underneath the vehicle and was dragged for approximately .4 miles before finally becoming dislodged. As a result of being struck and dragged by the vehicle, Ms. English has suffered permanent and catastrophic injuries, including amputation of her right leg at the hip. Avila fled the scene, leaving Ms. English suffering in the road. The following morning, Avila was apprehended by law enforcement and was charged with a 3rd degree felony for failing to stop and render aid. Abraham Watkins is conducting an investigation to determine if Avila was drinking prior to the crash.
