Cammie has been practicing in the courtrooms of New Mexico since being admitted to the bar in October of 1993. Beginning her career as a “street lawyer,” she found herself immersed in criminal defense work, and knew she was learning the art of cross-examination when police officers on the stand began to refer to her as “sir.” Her practice evolved to include civil rights litigation, with a focus on police abuse cases, and now civil rights cases are her primary focus.

Now a partner, the sole woman partner, at the Rothstein Law Firm, she continues to enjoy time in the courtroom. Her most recent favorite moment was watching a federal judge come out of his chair in anger and begin yelling at a police captain who insisted on trying to avoid answering questions during her cross-examination in a First Amendment case.

Earning her undergraduate degree at the University of New Mexico, and her law degree from the Yale Law School, Cammie has lived most of her life in Albuquerque. In 2003, she was named the Regional “Warrior of the Year” by Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyer's College, and in 2010 was named ACLU New Mexico's “Cooperating Attorney of the Year.”

When she is not working, she sometimes teaches law students and fellow lawyers trial advocacy skills, serving as an adjunct professor at the UNM School of Law since 2008. Since 1985, she has enjoyed sharing her life with her husband, Loren, and since 1998 and 2001, with their two sons. As often as possible, she disappears with all of them for days at a time of sleeping in, skiing, and watching movies together.
