Riverside Criminal Defense Attorney John Michels earned his J.D. from Notre Dame Law School in 1998 and his B.A. in History from the University of San Diego. Upon his admission to the California State Bar shortly after graduating from Law School, Attorney John Michels started his career as a prosecutor with the Riverside County DA.
While working as a prosecutor, Attorney John Michels handled a wide variety of criminal prosecutions, including misdemeanors, general felonies, fraud and embezzlement cases, and drug cases. Mr. Michels was also assigned to a special juvenile law prosecution unit. He left the DA’s office in 2001 and opened his own private Criminal Defense law practice.
For the past ten years, Criminal Defense Attorney John Michels has handled a wide variety of criminal matters throughout the Inland Empire, ranging from the simplest misdemeanor case to the most complex murder cases.
A highly active member of Riverside County’s legal community, Lawyer John L. Michels has been a member of the Deegan American Inn of Court for almost ten years, and is a member of their Executive Board and has acted as Judge Pro Tempore throughout the courts in Riverside and surrounding communities.
Mr. Michels volunteers annually as a scoring attorney for the Riverside County Mock Trial program, and participates in the annual Elves program raising money for needy families during the Christmas holidays.
As a former Deputy District Attorney, Mr. Michels is familiar with their office, practice and procedures. He is well respected by his fellow criminal defense attorneys, District Attorneys, and judges. An active member of the community since 1998, Attorney John L.
