Melvin L. Allen, Jr. received his Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2009. He received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2004. In 2006, he received his Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Radford University in Virginia. During the second year of his graduate studies, he was hired as a Graduate Teaching Fellow where he taught Introduction to Criminal Justice to thirty-five (35) students ranging from freshmen to seniors. While in law school, Mr. Allen focused on criminal law and obtained his Certificate of Concentration in Criminal Practice. Mr. Allen also completed a comprehensive training course in mediation and earned a Mediation Certificate. Mr. Allen interned for the Office of the Public Defender for Anne Arundel County in 2008 and, as a third year law student, practiced as a Maryland Rule 16 Attorney in 2009.
After graduating from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2009, Mr. Allen was hired by the District Court of Maryland for Prince George's County as a Judicial Law Clerk. In 2010, the Office of the State's Attorney for Prince George's County hired him as a prosecutor. During his tenure as an Assistant State's Attorney, he handled thousands of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases conducting hundreds of trials including possessions with intent to distribute (PWID), handguns, thefts, economic crimes, assaults, rapes, etc.
Upon his arrival at the Office of the State's Attorney for Prince George's County, Mr. Allen was immediately appointed to be the Constitutional Law Advisor to the District Court division. He was designated as the Maryland Rule 16 Attorney Supervising Attorney for nine third-year law students. Those law students went on to become law clerks, public defenders, private defense attorneys, and prosecutors. Mr. Allen has attended various legal seminars, including trial advocacy, arson training, insurance fraud, and has successfully completed "Top Gun," an undercover drug law enforcement training exclusively for narcotics investigators and prosecutors.
Mr. Allen developed a reputation for being both an extremely knowledgeable lawyer and a zealous, aggressive trial attorney. He uses that same intensity and zealousness to advocate for his clients at the James E. Farmer, LLC.
