Stephen M. Fernandez was a star undergrad at the University of Florida College of Law, where he graduated with honors. While there, his focus remained on any course relating to the specific fields of trial practice and personal injury. Mr. Fernandez became an active member, while in college, of the University of Florida Journal of Law and Public Policy. Prior to pursuing his law studies, he attended the University of Florida for Political Science, again graduating with some of the highest honors in his class. He holds minors in both Environmental Studies and Business Administration.
Professionally, Mr. Fernandez has directed his career toward representing a growing number of accident victims, as well as their families, in wrongful death and personal injury claims. He will also represent clients in wrongful insurance denial cases. He is licensed for the practice of law in both Georgia and Florida. He has also been admitted for the practice of law before the great U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. He has ample experience in uninsured or underinsured motorist claims, automobile accidents, commercial trucking cases, motorcycle accidents, negligent security, premises liability, assault and battery, watercraft accidents, and insurance denials covered under both the state law and the ERISA.
Mr. Fernandez is well known as an active advocate for all clients, as well as a highly skilled litigator. He has the honor of being a Rising Star, according to the Florida Super Lawyers Magazine for the years 2010 and 2011. Less than 3% of all attorneys receive this prestigious award, as it is based on stringent guidelines, including peer recognition, academic achievement, and high professional accomplishments. He has also been recognized by the National Trial Lawyers Organization as a "Top 40 Under 40" for 2011, and upholds a specific "Superb" rating from Avvo.
Mr. Fernandez upholds an array of memberships in association such as the Florida Justice Association, the American Association of Justice, the Manasota Trial Lawyers Association Board of Directors, the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Plaintiff's Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America, and the Sarasota Bar Association. He also holds a position on the Board of Sarasota Bay Watch, which is a non-profit group working toward the preservation of Sarasota Bay.
Mr. Fernandez is the author of many publications on topics from fly-fishing to handling insurance claims. In 2003, he penned an article titled, "Captive-bred Exceptions: An Unconventional Approach to Conservation Under the ESA", which won an award from the Barbara W. Maker organization. It was also published as part of the UF Journal of Law and Public Policy. He has been the author of many conservation and fishing articles in Florida Sportsman, Fisheries Magazine, and Saltwater Fly Fishing, as he is an avid fly fishing sportsman.
