Infographic: How attorneys work with expert witnesses

Attorneys are turning more often to expert witnesses to help bolster their cases, and the ways they’re being used are evolving, according to a survey by The Expert Institute. More than 1,000 attorneys were surveyed by the Institute to find out how they used experts in the courtroom, the qualities they sought in expert witnesses, and how they went about finding the right ones for their cases. Video: Livestream of Jason Van Dyke trial in Chicago

police shootingLive video of the trial of Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke, who’s accused of the 2014 murder of Laquan McDonald is being made available by WGN-TV. Van Dyke says he was acting in self defense when he shot McDonald 16 times. Dashcam video shows that McDonald was carrying a knife, but was walking away when he was shot. WGN will be streaming as much of the trial as Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan will allow. Bill CosbyThe retrial of Bill Cosby on sexual assault charges is underway in Norristown, Pennsylvania. The first time the comedian was tried on these charges ended in a deadlocked jury. This latest trial is taking place in a different environment, after the #MeToo movement began. Defending Cosby this time is National Trial Lawyer member Tom Mesereau, who successfully defended Michael Jackson on child molestation charges in 2005.
